About the role
We now have an opportunity for a Building Services Engineer to support the Senior Building Services Engineer within the Installation and Facilities Management Group. The successful candidate will work within the Mechanical Building Services Infrastructure team and provide LEV support across the business.
Further responsibilities will include:
- Assisting with the technical evaluation and understanding of proposed modifications/improvements to existing systems including technical report production.
- Assisting with the specification generation and tender analysis of medium sized installation contracts (£1 million) including pre-tender and post contract Project Management, planning, cost control, payment certification, witnessing of tests, etc. including close liaison with procurement department.
- Problem solving and fault diagnosis on all site mechanical services, including air conditioning, chilled water, process cooling water, hot and cold-water systems, MTHW/LTHW systems, compressed air, refrigeration, drainage, industrial gases (including liquid nitrogen), associated control systems, etc.
- Assisting the installation and maintenance of infrastructure LEV systems to HSG258.
- Supporting the group and advising scientific equipment owners/users on compliance with the Pressure Systems Safety Regulations 2000 (PSSR), developing procedures including testing and change control (training will be provided).
- Liaising and assisting with the supervision of external consultants, contractors, service engineers and suppliers. This includes supervision of “design and build” contracts.
- Assisting with the commissioning management/supervision for the small to medium sized projects to ensure compliance to relevant building services codes of practice.
- Supporting the development of building services operational systems and advising senior management of advantageous/disadvantageous for relevant proposals.
- Keeping up to date records of all QA documentation.
- Carrying out safety risk assessments and prepare method statements and/or evaluation of third- party safety submissions.
- Participating in Health and Safety and Quality Assurance procedures as appropriate to the post.
- Assisting with other related duties to meet the needs of the Installation and Facilities Management Group.
The role may involve being 'on call' on occasions.
About You
The successful candidate will require a minimum of an ONC qualification in Building Services Engineering or equivalent. Applicants with relevant or equivalent on-the job experience will also be considered.
You will require the following:
- Experience with MTHW, LTHW, Chilled/Process Cooling Water, Compressed Air, Drainage and Domestic Water systems.
- Knowledge of working with HVAC systems and LEV systems.
- Experience of H&S legislation.
- Knowledge of PSSR2000 Regulations and LEV (HSG258).
- Ability to organise and prioritise tasks to meet project timescales. (Project planning).
- Familiarity with using Quality Control Systems, Work Planning and Safe Systems of work.
- Ability to organise and prioritise tasks to meet project deadlines.
- Proven record of being able to supervise other people.
