Diamond Light Source is the UK’s national synchrotron science facility. By accelerating electrons to near light-speed, Diamond generates brilliant beams of light from infra-red to X-rays which are used for academic and industry research and development across a range of scientific disciplines including structural biology, physics, chemistry, materials science, engineering, earth and environmental sciences. 

 

About the Role

We now have an opportunity for a Goods Handling Operative to join our small Goods Handling team. 

The role will work closely with Diamond staff across all divisions to provide an efficient Goods Handling service. As well as arranging goods in and despatches the role holder will be part of the team ensuring all cryogenically cooled dewars are processed according to agreed procedures. 

Duties will include: 

  • Coordinating, arranging and recording all dispatches from Diamond.
  • Packaging items/goods for safe dispatch and transportation.
  • Completing Custom Clearance requests.
  • Electronic registration of deliveries / goods.
  • Filing delivery notes and signed Receipt Registration labels.
  • Informing staff when their deliveries have arrived.
  • Relocating parcels / deliveries to storage compounds / locations.
  • Resolution of queries arising from missing parcels, damaged goods etc.
  • Stock management.
  • Housekeeping and General Administration duties.

 

Diamond is planning a major upgrade of the facility, known as Diamond-II, so this role will play a part in contributing to the smooth movement of goods in to and out of Diamond 

 

About You

The successful candidate will have some experience of performing Goods-In / stores activity and enjoy working in a small team. 

Interpersonal skills are key to this role so the candidate should have a background in outward facing roles as well as administration experience. 

A driving licence is required as you will need to drive across campus, and a current forklift licence is desirable, but training can be provided.
