Scientific Software and Computing Graduates
Diamond Light Source is one of the most advanced scientific facilities in the world. It houses the UK’s synchrotron light source, producing beams of light 10 billion times brighter than the sun, to probe the structure and composition of matter. From viruses and vaccines, to alternative energy solutions and nanotechnology, it underpins research and innovation for more than 8000 scientists.
The Diamond Scientific Software, Controls and Computation (SSCC) department consists of several specialist groups and is critical to our scientific output.
About the Roles
We now have excellent opportunities for Scientific Software and Computing Graduates for our 2021 Graduate intake.
Working within the Diamond Scientific Software, Controls and Computation department, you will work in a research focussed environment alongside world leading scientists and professional engineers addressing technically challenging problems for the good of mankind.
To help you get started in your career, in this exciting and challenging environment, we offer a two-year-long rotational development programme in software technologies, development methodologies, and personal growth. During this you will gain hands-on experience and exposure to a wide range of cutting edge technologies, including:-
- Big Data Technologies
- High Performance Data Acquisition
- Scientific Data Analysis
- Data Science
- Machine Learning
- Data Visualisation
- Augmented and Virtual Reality
- Web Services
- Distributed Controls Systems
- Robotics, Remote Control and Automation
On completion of the development programme, a review will be undertaken with a view to a promotion and increased contribution to the science and research carried out at Diamond.
You will have recently achieved, or be expected to achieve, a 2:1 or above in Computer Science or a STEM subject.
You will be passionate about science or engineering and have a strong understanding and interest in software and computing technologies.
